Trudeau's political career is DOA for this election cycle, even if current polling is slightly off. He has completely failed to advance any policy and has overseen Canada's increasingly fast descent into the lowest levels of irrelevancy (whereas we had been floating at the upper levels for most of the 20th century). This is his last gasp at leaving a legislative legacy, though in his own entitlement-addled mind, he probably believes he will survive the next election and can muddle through another few decades of trading against Canada to gain political capital for himself. In reality he has no mandate, he has no legacy, but in the current global political climate it's clear that the projection of delusions and distortion of facts can yield powerful results, so he has nothing to lose by indulging in his own fantasies.
That said, when he does get voted out, he will be replaced by a somehow even more corrupt and incompetent administration who within a decade or so will be replaced once again by the Liberal party, possibly with Trudeau still at the helm.
