Severus Alexander, the last emperor of the Severan dynasty, was assassinated in March 235 CE during a military campaign against Germanic tribes along the Rhine River.
Alexander was not a strong military leader. He preferred diplomacy and negotiation to aggressive military action, which alienated many within the Roman legions. This dissatisfaction was exploited by Maximinus Thrax, a powerful and ambitious general who resented Alexander's perceived weakness. Maximinus cultivated support among the troops, fueling their discontent with Alexander's policies.

In a swift and brutal turn of events, Maximinus Thrax's supporters stormed Alexander's camp and killed him along with his mother, Julia Mamaea, a highly influential figure in his reign.

Alexander's death marked the end of the Severan dynasty.
