Something that been intriguing to me for sometime is natural gas price and it’s somewhat spurious connections to the vix. Natural gas after 2022 highs hit all time inflation adjusted lows in 2024 if we look at the ticker boil, natural gas has some bulls behind it again. Some might say it’s a leading indicator of inflation since it’s an input in so so many industrial industries. Think even oil refiners and some drillers use natural gas as a feed product. waha and Henry hub benchmarks are still relatively low but due to the decentralised nature of natural gas hubs (we actually do need more pipelines for this!) the northeast is experiencing consumer busting prices. Could this be reflected in the horribly negative consumer surveys that have pored in this week?
