Considering only this fragment, it sounds like a snobbish and stupid thing to say. But the full quote goes:
"In the planning stage of a book, don’t plan the ending. It has to be earned by all that will go before it."
From my interpretation, she means that the ending must be a natural consequence of the journey the characters go through. If that's the case, then I agree.
