Chinas typical "look how great the ccp is" propaganda was taken as gospel and in certain countries direct who guidelines (who released some guidelines that applied here in ~2010) in favor of chinas bonkers authoritarian way of responding to a health crisis.
I don't think this was a conspiracy but the natural tendency for humans to hoard power and get lazy.
The poor handling of the situation shows us how long we really were asleep behind the wheel and we how much let democracy decay.
This is a wakeup call to get involved in what the people in power are doing in the entirety of the western world.
