I have a PM who's obsessed with ChatGPT. It didn't take long for him to realize that as helpful as it might be to him (a non-programmer) ... it has extremely limited usefulness to me and the rest of the engineers.
We do some fairly serious programming that gets deployed to every inhabited continent on earth. This shit cannot be allowed to break. Breakage would be very, very, very bad.
Maybe if we were just pumping out crappy websites it might be more helpful for boilerplate for sloppy web devs.
But we aren't. We solve difficult problems. We... dare I say... innovate. That takes actually computer programming chops. It takes discipline and perseverance. I'm wrapping up a project now that has never been in production. It took a year and a half. Never been in prod. We hope to deploy in the next couple weeks for the first time.
Yeah... ChatGPT can't help much with all that.
Because... it can't THINK. It is NOT intelligent.
