PPPoE is a holdover from the DSL days, but some ISP's didn't want to have to bother re-configuring their BNG's (broadband network gateways). Although I now have native IPv6 at home, I have joined the dark side of Tailscale which makes connecting to devices really easy. One quirk of Tailscale is that even though all devices get an IPv4 and IPv6 address, it prefers IPv4 by default. There is no option for this, so I get around this by connecting a docker container running a dns server to my Tailnet and configuring tailscale to relay all queries to `.foxhole` to it.
