Listen, I grew up surrounded by folk with various mental health issues, with the impact ranging from harmful to abusive. Some of the people I care most about I absolutely have to restrict exposure to. It is ESSENTIAL to set boundaries that keep you healthy, it isn't your role in life to absorb other people's shit.
