what i know about mac is that it has a good package manager https://brew.sh/
case linux
follow this installation procedure and when you are able to boot arch without problems you will have enough knowledge to fix most problems you may find in the future, independent of the distro.

if you want something simple use linux mint or endeveaours os.
separate your /home from your root / using a separated partition(important if the system breaks and is need a reinstalation)
use appimages or flatpacks if you can, better to have duplicated library's than to download a new version of a program that can end up replacing a existing library with a newer version and end-up breaking other programs that depend on the old library.
