You seem to miss the iterated game theory aspect that Valentijn is discussing. That is, it can be clear what the solution to the trolley problem you have in front of you is and it's still not necessarily rational to take that choice because in the long run it leads to worse trolley problems. In this particular case I think the answer was clear, we needed to harm Trump and have him out, we failed. But Dems have marched right for decades unimpeded because GOP is more right.
