A couple of days after my 21 day water fast within which I cross-trained (this year’s extended fast), and I seem to have replaced about 10 lbs. of fat with about 5 lbs. of muscle.
Make sure to alter your diet- which includes calories consumed vs. calories burned- prior to your routine before the fast to maintain your target body mass, otherwise you will rebound.
I have said it before, and I will say it again: do different bouts of intermittent fasting (aka intermittent eating) before going into such extended fasts, 10 days would be a great stepping stone, which is what I did last year.
Caveat: I combine a plant based keto diet with my intermittent fasting, and there are many sources which outline how fasting with keto for those who ingest animal sources of protein and fat, even though both sources can be obtained from both plants as well as animals.
