That's a beautiful way to articulate it.

The area I grew up in had a few overgrown/abandoned places so it's always seemed natural to some extent to live beside and around places that (for any number of reasons) aren't being utilized as they once were. I only say "utilized" because often there's value in leaving artifacts of the past unused for any purpose. There were rock surfaces once used for processing acorns in the same area as an abandoned truck that fascinated me.
