My last home comp was 2013, and I didn't replace it until this year. Got a lot of life out of it, BECAUSE I overbought and splurged on something w/ enough performance to age gracefully. 3.5 ghz xeon and 64 gb ram back then was smoking, it's still...okay at least today. Now that they're more portable I no longer need to split the desk/lap mission though. I can just hook up a laptop to 5 monitors and call it good
BUT it all comes down to mission, normal life watching youtube, emails, spreadsheets can be done with a 4-core intel machine for a while longer. It will be sluggish compared to newer & better but you'll only notice if you actually use the newer. It's like owning your mom's accord coupe as a teen, that's "FAST" to you, and you have no idea what 400 hp and beyond even feels like
