The idea of buying in and ‘Roverising’ another manufacturer’s car was a sound one given MG Rover’s position but in the case of the CityRover the process probably needed to be much more thorough for the car to wear the Rover badge convincingly. One oft-touted alternative - badge it as an Austin.
There was a wider significance too. In 2008, Tata bought Jaguar Land Rover. If MG Rover had survived a little longer, might it have had a shot at becoming part of that success story in some way? (2/2)
