I primarily want a programmable reverse proxy so that I can mitigate L7 DoS attacks against mastodon without having to touch upstream code. Go isn't the fastest, but it's fast enough. L3 DoS is far outside the scope of what I can/want to deal with. I'll just rent boxes for the edge servers, scale and deal with it if/when it becomes a problem.
