but there are some specific cases where I'd consider breaking the DC/DC out onto its own board:
1. if the design has a few separate boards already, it's easier to make the power supply a separate board and connect it to all the other boards
2. if I'm working on a bunch of related designs that can all use the same supply and it's not mechanically annoying to have it separate
3. if it's something with higher design complexity that I can benefit from reusing (e.g. bipolar opamp supply)
