What makes your hero feel weak?
Not being able to figure people out when they're conscious.
Unconscious brains, REM sleep, dreams: these things can all be monitored and measured and quantified. Conscious people say things they don't mean, do things they don't want to, and tend toward acting irrationally. How is one researcher supposed to interact with so many conflicting subjects?
