I'm guessing it depends where you come from.
For folks that were around when CVS was more or less ubiquitous, HEAD isn't very strange, but remotes kinda sorta are.
Likewise, if you've been exposed to distributed SVCs for long enough, a remote isn't a strange concept.
The rest is more or less default conventions, isn't it? "origin" is just a default name, just like "master" (or "main")...
