Abu Dhabi (the Union) Center for Arabic Language concluded its participation in the 56th Cairo International Book Fair, which took place from January 23 to February 5, 2025, under the slogan 'Read... In the Beginning Was the Word'. This participation comes within the center's efforts to support the Arabic language and promote its presence in the Arab and international cultural scene. The participation included a representative pavilion for the center, hosting a rich cultural program to introduce the center's awards system, through five cultural dialogue sessions that highlighted the center's role in supporting and promoting the Arabic language, as well as developing the publishing, translation, and creative industries in the Arab world, in addition to promoting its new projects, awards, and initiatives, and efforts to enhance the status of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, and attracting the most prominent authors to participate in the cultural and professional programs in its next edition in 2025. The pavilion received a number of prominent cultural figures, including Dr. Ahmed Fouad Negm, the Egyptian Minister of Culture, who praised the center's projects and role, and expressed his admiration for the books published by the center. The pavilion also received Mariam Khalifa Al-Kaabi, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt, who commended the center's positive image among cultural circles, and discussed with the team ways of cooperation in implementing a number of activities and events in Egypt. The pavilion also received visits from Dr. Ihab Al-Qaisi, the Director of the Iraqi Cultural Foundation, and a delegation from Qatar, in addition to the official delegation of the Alexandria Library, which discussed with the center's team procedures for signing a cooperation agreement between the center and the library, and the cultural activities that will be held under its umbrella in the coming period. The participating delegation held meetings with several cultural institutions, including a meeting with Mustafa Abdullah, the Director of the British 'Harper' company, to discuss ways of developing the experience of exhibitors at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, and met with Ahmed Hikal, the Executive Director of the Saudi 'Sama' company. The pavilion also saw visits from representatives of four publishing houses eligible to participate in the 'Honoring Publishing Houses' initiative during the next edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The participation also included a pavilion for book sales, featuring a large number of the center's publications, including the 'Kalam' translation project, the 'Basira' research and studies series, and the 'Publications' project, which included works in the fields of literature, thought, and the humanities. The pavilion included more than 600 titles of the center's publications, including 85 new titles, and witnessed a great turnout from visitors who interacted with the presented titles, which reflect a cultural and intellectual diversity that meets the needs of readers of all ages and interests. The pavilion hosted five cultural dialogue sessions that focused on introducing the center's awards system, and discussed a variety of topics related to the awards scene in the Arab world, in addition to a session that discussed the challenges facing the publishing industry and intellectual property in the era of artificial intelligence. The sessions featured a number of authors, thinkers, and artists, as well as some of the center's award winners. 'Arabic Coffee' podcast: In the framework of its participation in the Cairo International Book Fair, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, in collaboration with the Gaya Creative Foundation, produced a cultural podcast titled 'Arabic Coffee'. The podcast featured a number of prominent Arab thinkers, artists, and writers, who discussed their creative works and the state of literature and culture in the Arab world. Some of the names that participated in the podcast include Ahmed Shawqi, Nora Nagi, Ahmed Marzouk from Egypt, Suleiman Al-Maamari and Zuhair Al-Qassimi from Oman, Maram Al-Zeraie from the UAE, Haitham Al-Haj Ali from Egypt, Abdul Wahab Al-Hamadi from Kuwait, and Mohamed Jafar from Algeria.
