99% of actual monetary exchanges on Nostr whether it be donation or services happen due to the following reasons:
- People are pressured into doing X, and they try to cheap out as much as possible
- People want to be cool or want the feeling of having done something good
Damus Purple for example, I think a lot of the purchases were motivated by the fact that people wanted the cool number and wanted to be able to say "I donated", which is unfortunate because this means people don't truly care about paying for what you use. People that wanted to donate would have already done so via some other method.
And using paid relays as an example, people feel pressured into getting them, they don't truly understand why they matter instead being told stuff like "you need one to not see spam" and try to cheap out since they don't really know why they need one themselves.
