SF is ALL ABOUT alienation from the mundane lived world! I mean, that's practically all there is to it—alienation from our expectations of how the world works, so we have to open our eyes and see things afresh.
(Current WIP is set two thirds of a million years in the future, at a time when our hominin subspecies is long extinct, SPECIFICALLY to distance the reader from everything familiar.)
