I suspect I have read every interview with the the founder and lead designer of Java James Gosling

And I don't recall him ever saying that the main purpose of Java was for Kitchen and Household appliances.
It was designed to be suited to embedded applications but at the time it was being designed there would have been very few domestic appliances that could run any form of JVM.
