One of the things that make #Mastodon so satisfying in my opinion is the (chronological) determinism of the timeline. If I re-open the timeline after a while, I can be sure to find some post I saw back in its place, instead of the bunch of randomly selected recommendations that other social media picks nowadays.
It's more like a log of actual social human interactions than any other platform, not to mention its content quality being way higher without "viral" recommendations
