I don’t think there’s a big implication for fountain pen inks being waterproof if you are only writing, but all of my drawings are black line work first, and then watercolours over top (after the ink is dried). If the ink is not waterproof, it rewets and mixes with the watercolour.

I painted a quick watercolour green brushstroke over top of dried ink linework - both waterproof and non waterproof inks below as an example… it doesn’t just smudge, it becomes an unwieldy mess 😱😱😱
