Yamaha TMax 560 (npub1kp0…5ugq) it was mostly the government going after the counter culture movement of the boomers (who were zoomers at the time) and wanted to do things like end war, protest the fucked up things the federal government was doing, etc. so they made weed and psychedelics illegal saying they had no medical value even though weed had been used medicinally for millennia and research showing that LSD was extremely effective at curing PTSD. Thus there was obviously a lot of pressure from big pharma. Also paper and cotton industry have played a large part.
See, you can't go targeting your political enemies just for exposing your corruption and organising protests but if you make weed and psychedelics illegal and have suspicion that the person has illegal contraband then you can investigate and search and if they do have them you can take them down and get the same effect but without the bad publicity.
Likewise, it'll look bad if you go arresting actual peaceful protesters. However, if you're arresting them for possession of illegal substances then that's different. Likewise it'll cause the protest to disperse on its own as people don't want to spend years in prison for possession of something that's not even dangerous.
That's the real reason it was made illegal.
It was basically made illegal so it could be used to take out their political opponents. It was basically modern day cancel cultural orchestrated by the federal government. Oh wait...
