Actually the clear rate for most homicide departments is under 50% so the odds are better i won't fet caught, and those odds increase with intelligence and planning.
I once knew a guy (through the internet, not like a buddy of mine) who admitted that he burned a guys trailer with him inside it because I guess that guy had raped his gf/wife or something like that. He wasn't very bright and the cops knew it was him they just couldn't prove it
