I definitely see the point that energy suppliers are trying to make - energy that is produced needs to be handled and distributed immediately if we don't have proper storage facilities.
But the statement of the problem also contains the solution: just build more storage, and the problem is solved. We'll need plenty of it anyway if we want to pivot away from fossil fuels. Without having to rethink the business model and the system of incentives that are already in place. But, of course, charging customers is always an easier solution than investing in proper solutions.
