Wanted to share my recent ‘discovery’ involving Nextcloud and note-taking. I’ve been trying all the various fancy notes apps - Joplin, Obsidian, Trillium, etc. They all have heavy downsides that caused me to give up on them, leaving notes scattered everywhere. I always find myself going back to a simple text editor. That’s when I settled on Nextcloud Notes. It supports markdown (among other formats). I can edit directly in the NC web interface, in a simple text editor via WebDAV, or in the Nextcloud Notes iOS app. Updates to a note are nearly instant via another interface. I prefer the simplicity of pure markdown. I have no desire to pay for a sync service when I already have it from Nextcloud. I don’t want to have to run another app to sync to the backend. I use the KDE Nextcloud integration and mark my Notes directory as a sidebar place in Dolphin. Of course, I can edit from anywhere I can establish WebDAV connectivity. It just works and I’m all in. Some think Nextcloud is overkill, but I really enjoy having it as a platform to support workflows like this. Oh, and I use the LinuxServer.io docker image.
