I think relays by topic could be a thing, but I don’t they don’t work. I will explain.
Think about a pineapple pizza fan relay.
I would still see all the pineapple pizza notes of anyone I follow in my home screen, whether I am connected to that relay or not.
But people who do connect to that relay will have a lot of pineapple pizza content in their global feed, right?
Well people who do not connect to that relay or who are even blocked from that relay, will not have 100.00% the pineapple pizza content. But they will still receive most of it as it leaks into their global feed through all the other relays that people use.
Having many relays is what makes nostr censor resistant. It also makes it extremely difficult to control types of content, especially where there are many different relay setups and many different clients available to users.
Curation is probably going to be controlled by the user, and if the user cannot get the control they want they can vote with their feet.
