Nano-X, formerly called Microwindows, is a cross platform graphics library which can do many things, including running FLTK or very early GTK libraries without X11, or run actual X11 code through a shim library that adapts X11 to its own protocol.

I wonder how hard it would be to get Motif working on this? If it supports enough of a UI toolkit's needs to support FLTK or GTK 1, it almost certainly can be made to support Motif.

I suppose you'd need to make X Toolkit Intrinsics work first, since Motif builds on that.
