April is time for Minnesota folks to put their hummingbird feeders out. You'd be shocked how early they come and how desperate they are. Make a simple syrup with 1 part white sugar to 4 parts boiling water and let it cool. Store excess in the refrigerator. Switch it out every few days in hotter weather. Do NOT use red food dye‐‐ it is bad for hummingbirds. Use a red or brightly colored feeder instead.
