Maybe its standard autopsy procedure? One i witnessed, when the brain is taken out of the corpses skull for sampling and weighing, its not squished back into it afterwards, but thrown into the stomach/chest cavity and sown up after everything is done. The head is just filled up with lint-like stuff and the skull glued back together.
