I love open source funding dont get me wrong.
There are many projects that are valuable but simply could never be a business offering ROI to investors.
However there are cases where a business model could absolutely be developed. Therefore pouring subsidies on those projects only stunts the (virtuous) incentive to produce a full production product and retards development.
