Just a point to realise that at its core, the idea that giving a tax break to landlords will result in lower rents is merely another form of ‘trickle down economics’ … an economic policy that has been disproven repeatedly over the last half century or so.
And that’s leaving aside the fact that we’ve been repeatedly told that landlords charge “market rates” … ie what the market will bear. This is a price setting mechanism that has very little to do with the actual cost of provision.
