12 months #sober today. I decided to stop drinking after I realised I had a dependency. I would drink in the week and increase the amount over the weekend. Then once a month or so I would have a total bender.
#Alcohol causes the brain's reward system to release the motivational chemical #dopamine. But over time, chronic drinking actually depletes the amount of dopamine in your brain, causing you to crave more alcohol.
I'm so glad I was able to stop and tap into the feeling of dopamine seeking as it lays the groundwork for all sorts of addictions.
Now I can channel the motivational effect of dopamine in to positive things like Ultra Marathons ...
