I notice a slight difference in basmati rice strictly in texture but no flavor difference at all.
That's why when I get dinner from my local Indian restaurant that pairs all their curry dishes with basmati rice I either add mint chutney which I automatically stir into the rice or put some butter on the rice.

Yeah, I'm ordering curry, but if I run out of the gravy I don't want naked rice! It needs flavor even without the gravy!
