It should just be simple math.
I will note that a good model will preserve energy and mass. But in my experience there are VERY few "good models". All of them have edges where assumptions are made to what happens (like energy transfer to the ground or air escaping to space).
I've also found models with really odd stuff happening between cells (or whatever resolution they model).
