My mother, a 91 year old, has been a practicing catholic her whole life, goes to daily Mass, loves the app. She said she hasn't prayed the rosary this often since getting the app.
There are novenas, and prayer warrior groups praying for specific people.
You don't "need" an app to pray, but in this case it can have a positive effect.
