I've just concluded a three-year study on whether I'm able to induce prosocial behaviour in my neighbours, starting with shared management of my building's clothes lines, which previously saw little use. I've added clothes pegs for everyone to use. People started using them. In face of a shortage, would they add more on their own?
The answer is no.
I've written down my inventory (2 €) and doubled the supply myself (spare ones have been sitting in my drawer all along) so I don't run out.
