I’m finishing Maria Ressa’s book, “How to Stand Up to a Dictator,” where she documents the coordinated online attacks that isolated her, undermined her reputation and motivated government action against her and her media company. Reflecting on her experiences and those of some of my friends this year (and TBH, my own) I’m just recognizing how we have been led so terribly astray by a playbook that told us to ignore those attacks and hope they would somehow just go away.
