npub19fcv2nflra09c6p9xz8c8detwj6uy07u4z4m25qh836mnvxtatdq6aay3c (npub19fc…ay3c) my belief in answer to this from Minneapolis: I don't think it's true that nothing changed at all. We have 1/3 fewer cops here than before. In a lot of places including here the conversation about police has demonstrably changed. It may not be common to hear abolitionist sentiments now like it was in 2020, but it's no longer *surprising* to find someone else who you wouldn't expect to hate the police.
that said, i think it's certainly true that nothing positive has changed *thru legislative processes or other official channels*. other than new reformist measures designed to prop up policing, that is - just like the ballot initiative here that sucked up all the energy from the streets and put it into campaigning for something that failed, ended up being adopted anyway, and only reinforced state power.
we burned a police station and demonstrated that direct action gets the goods - but until that is replicated at scale beyond mere protest, reformism will still win the day.
