If it were that simple, somebody, notably Chrysler, would have done it. The problem at the time is that it was a solution in want of a problem. It was less fuel efficient, less performant, and far more expensive than a conventional engine. It was bothersome to fuel (tetraethyl lead fouls the turbine blades), and the added expense bought very little the customer cared about. The electric car industry solved this by inventing and selling problems their cars can solve, but those problems are not addressed by automotive turbine engines either.
The addition of a hybrid system would resolve two of the big problems with the automotive turbine, but only at additional cost. The question is "In what way would it be better for the buyer than a conventional hybrid?" If you have a good answer to that question, you can make it work.
