"Hello, how may I direct your call? I'm sorry, you've reached the call-screening service that Tim uses. If you'd like to leave a callback number and a message, I'd be glad to pass it along to him."
Machines get tripped up and continue with their inanity. Junk-callers generally bumble and claim it was a wrong number or are just confused. On the lucky occasion I "take a message for the holder of the line (me)" and manage to get a legit callback number, I can then include that in my FTC Do Not Call complaint report along with the (usually-faked) number that was on my caller-ID. (why yes, I do have a "launch the FTC complaint page" hotkey configured in Fluxbox 😉)
And when it's an actual human with legit cause to contact me (e.g. the dr. office calling back from an unrecognized number), they always understand, and often get a good laugh out of it.
