Some things we want software to do are essentially complicated. But many systems are needlessly complected / complex.

That said, I don't think GHC is quite as simple as it should be. Haskell-by-the-Report is simpler and a much better experience to read/write. (It does, unfortunately, have some fairly essential performance issues.)

I haven't found it yet, but I feel that there's a dependently typed system out there (maybe GHC in the future) that's both simpler AND more capable.
