-International Events-
1. Netanyahu warns Yemen’s Houthis face a ‘heavy price’ as missile lands in central Israel: The projectile was fired from Yemen toward Israel at 6am local time this morning, according to the Israel Defense Forces who added that it “most likely fragmented in mid-air.” The missile fell in an open area in central Israel, with no injuries reported. The Houthis said they used a “new hypersonic ballistic missile” and warning that Israel should expect more such strikes as the first anniversary of the October 7 attack by Hamas approaches. (CNN)
2. Venezuela says it arrested Navy SEAL allegedly involved in a plot to kill President Maduro: Three Americans, two Spaniards and a Czech citizen were arrested Saturday after Venezuelan officials accused them of coming to the South American country to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro. The arrest of the American citizens included a member of the Navy, who Cabello identified as Wilbert Joseph Castañeda Gomez. Cabello said that Gomez was a Navy SEAL who had served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia. The announcement of the arrests comes just two days after the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on 16 allies of Maduro who were accused by the U.S. government of obstructing voting during the disputed July 28 Venezuelan presidential election, and carrying out human rights abuses. The Maduro administration has previously used Americans imprisoned in Venezuela to gain concessions from the U.S. government. (StarsandStripes)
-US Events-
1. Trump was the subject of an apparent assassination attempt at his Florida golf club, the FBI says: U.S. Secret Service agents stationed a few holes up from where Trump was playing noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle sticking through the shrubbery that lines the course, roughly 400 yards away. An agent fired and the gunman dropped the rifle and fled in an SUV, leaving the firearm behind along with two backpacks, a scope used for aiming and a GoPro camera, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. The man was later stopped by law enforcement in a neighboring county. They had been on the fifth hole and about to go up to putt when they heard a “pop pop, pop pop.” Within seconds, he said Witkoff recounted, Secret Service agents “pounced” on Trump and “covered him” to protect him. The man in custody was Ryan Routh, three law enforcement officials told the AP.(AP)
