At the time there was a much bigger issue with gun regs that most people know nothing about. Trumps bump-stock ban put the spot light on regulations, at the same time he put a moratorium on any new regs without congressional action (laws).
The gun industry and many gun owners would be totally fucked right now had Trump left it alone.
