I think the forum is a great hybrid situation for us. We use the official Discourse hosting, which is quite more pricy than hosting it ourselves, but it gives us some peace of mind and we can still migrate to a fully self-hosted version if needed.

Nowadays, I wish we had the same for the chat server. Hosted Mattermost or something similar would be pretty great.

Migrating the community to a different app/service is a huge pain, so we don't really have any plans for that atm.
