I think the wider line might be on account of the ink... I remember watching Daisy (of Yoseka) at the Kakimori stall at Stationery Fest, talking to the folks managing the stall on one of their YouTube videos.
They'd mentioned that even though you can use normal fountain pen ink, pigment inks worked best in the rollerball configuration.
