Been messing with a new radio. This one is very cool. After a firmware upgrade, the radio has built in KISS protocol (KISS stands for Keep It Simple Stupid). Since the radio has bluetooth capability, this means that you can connect packet radio apps (like Winlink, APRS, etc) from your phone, tablet, laptop, desktop systems and have full on packet radio capabilities without needing any special TNC hardware. Very, very, very cool. Handy for both playing around as well as emergency packet radio communications. I went ahead and checked in with the ANSRVR for #aprsthursday, which then showed my CQ in their database. This is a very handy way to communicate to the internet without having the internet yourself.
