Queen Anne Boleyn was executed because she didn’t bear King Henry Xlll a son. Her daughter, Queen Elizabeth l, would later be celebrated for restoring the Turor currency which had been diluted by her father to fund foreign wars and an extravagant lifestyle. This led to huge price rises and public unrest. Sound familiar?
Elizabeth I, in attempt to restore faith, ordered all old coins to be brought to the Mint, melted down and re-made into new purer coins with her portrait. It was a difficult undertaking that Elizabeth herself described as a 'bitter medicine'.
